How do dermal fillers work?

As we age, we lose collagen and elastin from the skin losing skin elasticity, our fat pads shrink, our bones remodel leading to loss of volume and contour. This leads to sagging of the facial features, appearance of wrinkle lines and folds, often leaving people looking “tired” and older. Dermal fillers smooth away facial lines, wrinkles and restore volume loss providing more youthful facial contours.

How long until I see results?

Results are almost instantaneous and will show straight away, you will be able to resume your normal day-to-day activities immediately post treatment. Full effect of the treatment will be after full healing - 2 weeks post treatment.

How long do fillers last?

This will vary person to person & will also depend on the type of filler used for treatment. The longevity ranges from 6-18 months depending on the brand, thickness, skin type and area treated. Individual biological factors such as how fast your body metabolises the product are also relevant to how long the filler lasts. Dermal fillers come in varying viscosities and thicknesses to ensure there is an appropriate product to suit all facial areas and personal preference.

Are dermal fillers safe?

The risks of dermal fillers are significantly lowered if you choose a medically qualified practitioner for the procedure who has the right training, lots of experience and the appropriate qualifications. It’s also really important that you chat with your practitioner about your medical history, conditions you might have or any medications you’re taking beforehand to ensure nothing will impact the safety of the treatment.

How can I prepare for my filler appointment?

Two days prior to your treatment, avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil supplements as these may increase bleeding and bruising. However, if you are taking any prescribed medicines, including aspirin, do not stop taking them. Instead, chat with your practitioner or GP first. Avoiding alcohol for at least two days before your treatment is also recommended.
